Yurt Madness

The Shirleys, Us, The Gardeners and the Shipps and our faithful Yurt.

Mike and I were thrilled to join some gutty friends for a little adventure in the Big Water Yurt up Mill Creek Canyon.  For those who are unfamiliar with yurts, the yurt was 20 ft in diameter and provides a "primitive winter camping experience for 4-8 people."  It contained a wood burining stove, bunk beds and furniture.  The yurt is located at the Upper Big Water Trailhead at the end of the ski trail, a very LONG 4.5 miles (all uphill) from the winter gate.

 This picture was taken at what we thought was one-third of the way to the Yurt. After reaching the yurt, I think this picture was really taken one-eighth of a way to the yurt...


We were fortunate enough to reserve the yurt for one evening.  We cross country skied to the yurt (though some of us just tromped through the snow....) and enjoyed an evening full of yurtie activities, a yurts night's sleep, a yurtie breakfast and then skied down the canyon after we had a yurt-full in the morning.

 Amanda and John came very prepared. Not only did they bring their avalanche gear and matching green bike bottles, but Amanda brought her Go Girl.  We asked for a demonstration and she politely declined. You go girl!

 

This is an attempt of taking a picture inside the yurt. However, it is so small that this is as good as it gets. Pictured: The Shipps and the Garffs finishing up dinner.

I really LOVED our yurt adventure, and TOTALLY plan on doing one next year. Except, maybe we'll go to a yurt that's not a 4.5 mile uphill ski...
